In this life
of ups and downs,
of joy and sorrow,
only three days count,
yesterday,
today
and tomorrow.

MONSTER IN THE CUPBOARD
There's a monster in the cupboard,
I hear it breathing in and out,
waiting to grab a hold of me,
of that I have little doubt.
Some days it's cold and frosty,
the days when I need my duffel,
but on reaching in to grab it
I swear I hear a shuffle.
Just like football strikers,
I have to be quick on the bounce,
in and out in seconds before
the monster has time to pounce.
People say I imagine it
and urge me to stop my bleating,
saying the noise and creaks and gurgles
are from the central heating.
Yeah, right!
I hear it breathing in and out,
waiting to grab a hold of me,
of that I have little doubt.

MUCH TO UNRAVEL
Age,
maturity,
experience,
all supposed
to make life simpler
on this journey we travel,
but no matter the years,
the wisdom, the learning,
there will always be
much to unravel.

J. R.
Farewell to Larry Hagman,
Dallas TV star,
the villain that we knew and loved
simply as J.R.
Like his beloved oil,
he was slimy, he was slick,
his opponents were outwitted,
not one was worth a lick.
This year the show returned
and though J.R. now was old,
the sneer, the smile, the twinkle,
still triumphant small-screen gold.
So farewell now Larry Hagman,
the man we booed and hissed,
as the king of TV villains,
you will be sadly missed.

COLOUR RED (JFK)
It is slowed down beautifullynow on grainy film,
black and white in 1963,
colour now, technology,
exactly right to see the red
and we watch it again and againto witness it again and again,
concentrating on the colour red,
Kennedy in Texas,
the colour red,
the President's head.

CHELSEA MANAGERS
We've seem them come,
we've seen them go,
we've seen them hired,
we've seen them fired,
we've seen them win,
we've seen them lose,
and once again
it's time to choose.
In twelve short years,
blood, sweat and tears,
the list is long,
the blood still wet,
but here they are,
the ones that tried,
the ones that cheered,
the ones that cried.
Rix, Ranieri,
Mourinho, Grant,
Scolary, Wilkins,,
Hiddink too,
Ancelotti,
Villas-Boas,
Di Matteo,
all gone with still so much to do.
So, who'll be next,
to throw in a pitch
and satisfy
Abramovich?

ABSENT
The clock ticks
and we head
for that point
when the clock
strikes twelve
and another year ends,
the trigger to stir
emotions and memories,
of absent but never forgotten
family and friends.

HAPPY DAYS
The tut-tut-tutting,
the tweet-tweet-tweeting,
the whinge-whinge-whinging,
the bleat-bleat-bleating,
the blah-blah-blahing,
the moan-moan-moaning,
the bitch-bitch-bitching
the groan-groan-groaning,
the boasts and baloney,
the humbug and grumbles,
the hot air and bunkum,
the belly-aches and grumbles.
Sunday, Monday,
happy days,
Tuesday, Wednesday,
happy days.........
etcetera,
etcetera

OSCAR TAME
In this poetry game,
said Oscar Tame,
I think I'm a talented child,
but he was beaten to fame
by a fluke of a name
belonging to Oscar Wilde.

CHIPPY
One potato,
two potatoes,
three potatoes,
four,
five potatoes,
six potatoes,
seven potatoes,
more.....
I peel 'em,
I wash 'em,
'til my brain turns dippy,
another long night
in the kitchen of the chippy.
Why do I do it,
when I'm a miserable sod?
Well I see it as my calling,
for the love of cod.

three potatoes,
four,

WHY DO POLITICIANS......
Why do politicians
feel the urge to show they're tough,
during a term of office,
when they exceed their huff and puff?
They sometimes take the notion
to give their swords a rattle,
as they find some rhyme and reason
to take us into battle.
Perhaps they want a portrait
of themselves in General's kit
to show how bold and brave they were
when they bombed some place to shit.
They have the gift of oratory,
they can make a lie sound true,
they can make a case for warfare
on behalf of me and you.
Why don't politicians admit,
with mea culpa honesty,
that while they can walk from office,
the dead have no such luxury?
feel the urge to show they're tough,
during a term of office,
when they exceed their huff and puff?
They sometimes take the notion
to give their swords a rattle,
as they find some rhyme and reason
to take us into battle.

BATH WATER
Well, you see,
it was like this,
it was a busy time,
not enough hours
in the day,
only two hands,
mind all over the place.....
you see,
I threw out the bath water
and then couldn't find the baby.....
you don't think,
cough, splutter,
perhaps,
maybe...........

TRAPEZE
In the olden days,
if we were ticked off,
we would run away
to join a circus,
well not me,
homebody,
comfy sofa,
hot dinner,
goodnight hug,
me at home,
much more at ease
than feeling homesick
on a trapeze.
